WHAT IS A PERMANENT RESIDENT VISA?
A permanent resident is one who although not a Canadian Citizen, however, has been given Permanent Resident Status after immigrating to Canada. The students or foreign workers living in Canada temporarily are not permanent residents. A permanent is given the Permanent Resident Card (PR Card) as proof that he/she is a Permanent Resident of Canada (in case the cardholder travels outside Canada). The cardholder would require the PR Card if re-enters Canada. Below you will find a brief overview of various programs.
Express Entry is the fastest way to obtain a Permanent Residency in Canada under Canada Experience Class.
To qualify for Express Entry immigration, you must first qualify under one of the eligible economic immigration programs.
- Federal Skilled Worker Program: The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program is the largest of all economic immigration programs, and is the most popular program for applicants who reside outside of Canada. Applicants are assessed on their ability to contribute to the Canadian economy as a worker, based on factors such as age, work experience, education, and language skills. These factors are assessed on a points scale – a minimum of 67 points is needed in order to qualify.
- Canadian Experience Class: The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program is the most suitable route for applicants inside Canada. Once applicants have one year of full-time Canadian work experience, in an eligible occupation (NOC type 0, A, or B), they can qualify under this program.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program: The Federal Skilled Trades (FST) program is for candidates in select skilled trade occupations. Applicants need two years of experience in a qualifying trades occupation, as well as a valid job offer from a Canadian employer.
- Provincial Nominee Program: PNP is suitable for applicants who have an existing connection to one of the Canadian provinces. This can be through employment, education, or business. Qualifying applicants can obtain a nomination from a province, which then allows the applicant to immigrate through Express Entry.
